A Mount Dora man was arrested for allegedly running from police on a bicycle after being stopped for missing lights.

Police observed 46-year-old Ricky Lumar Taylor on a blue bicycle near Wardell Street at around 3:51 a.m. Wednesday. His bike did not have a front light or a red rear light affixed to it, according to an arrest report from the Mount Dora Police Department.

Taylor refused to stop when an officer attempted to stop Taylor for the improper lighting. Loud verbal commands to stop were met with a “nah” as Taylor peddled faster to flee from law enforcement.

Taylor turned right onto Pine Avenue as police followed him in a patrol vehicle, the report said. He turned his bike onto a driveway and rode eastbound on the sidewalk as an officer pulled into another driveway further east of his location. The attempt to stop Taylor failed as he continued east.

An officer followed Taylor northbound onto private property near 1701 Pine Avenue. The officer lost sight of Taylor, who was headed into a wooded area, and notified other officers in the area. He then went into the wooded area to try and stop Taylor from fleeing, the report said.

At that time, another officer announced on the radio that he caught Taylor and was attempting to place him in handcuffs, the report said. Officers arrived to assist with the arrest as Taylor refused to surrender his left arm. Eventually, they succeeded in handcuffing him.

Taylor was charged with failure to obey law enforcement order to stop and resisting arrest without violence. He was also issued a citation for riding a bicycle with improper lighting. He was transported to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $2,000.
