A Leesburg man was charged with drug possession after being pulled over for driving 25 mph over the speed limit in Eustis.

Police spotted a silver Ford speeding near the intersection of CR 19A and CR 44 at around 10:39 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Eustis Police Department. The vehicle was clocked as going 55 mph in a 30-mph zone.

A traffic stop was initiated, and the officer spoke to 25-year-old De’aaron Bolden. Bolden advised he and his girlfriend were headed to her house and were unaware of their speed. As they spoke, the officer could smell the distinct odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle, the report said.

Because neither Bolden nor his girlfriend had a medical marijuana card, the officer asked them to exit the vehicle so he could perform a search. Bolden told the officer he had a large bag of marijuana in the center console, the report said.

The officer then found the 22.2-gram bag of marijuana, the report said. Two metal trays and an herb grinder with leafy substance on them were also found. A field test showed a positive result for marijuana.

The Arkansas native was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana over 20 grams. He was transported to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,000 bond.
