A Leesburg man was arrested after allegedly stealing food and drinks from a Wawa from which he had previously been banned.
Police were dispatched to the Wawa at 1400 W. North Boulevard at around midnight Friday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Officers were advised 25-year-old Dimitri Alexander Sutton had stolen several drinks and food items.
Sutton was spotted walking northbound on U.S. Hwy. 441 eating a sandwich, the report said. As the officer drew near, Sutton dropped the sandwich, opened a drink and began rapidly drinking from the can.
The officer detained Sutton and began to search him. A candy bar, a bag of M&Ms and a Monster brand energy drink were found in his pockets. A can of energy drink was recovered after Sutton drank half of it, the report said.
Police contacted Wawa’s supervisor, the report said. He advised that Sutton entered the building and took a sandwich, candy and drinks before leaving. The sandwich reported stolen was the same sandwich he dropped in front of police.
Video surveillance captured the entire incident, the report said. A total of five items were stolen for a total of $15.55 items.
Sutton was previously convicted for petit retail theft in January of this year. He was also found to have been trespassed from the property in November 2022, the report said.
The Oklahoma native was arrested and charged with trespass after a warning and felony retail theft with two or more prior convictions. He was transported to the Lake County Jail after completing the booking process. Bond was set at $3,000.
