A Summerfield man was arrested for cocaine possession at a Circle K in Leesburg.

Police responded to a call for a suspicious vehicle at the Circle K at 2211 Citrus Blvd. at around 3:36 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officer observed a black Chevrolet Blazer parked at a gas pump, the report said. A check of the tag revealed the driver, 29-year-old Michael Brandon Steadham, and the vehicle were the same ones mentioned in the call.

The officer then attempted to speak to Steadham, who was sleeping in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, the report said. The officer instead observed a torn and tied off black plastic bag consistent with the storage and transportation of narcotics. He also noticed what appeared to be a marijuana grinder, a scale and numerous white owl cigar wrappers used for rolling marijuana.

A second officer began looking through the passenger side window. He saw a similarly torn and tied clear plastic bag containing a blue powder substance sitting in the center console within Steadham’s reach, the report said.

The first officer reached into the vehicle and removed the black plastic bag before waking Steadham. Once he was awake, Steadham stepped out of the vehicle. He stated he did not know what the blue powder was when asked, the report said.

White powder was found inside of the black bag, which tested positive for cocaine. The blue powder tested positive for cocaine, as well. A cut plastic straw was also found with white residue believed to be snorted cocaine, the report said.

Steadham was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $3,000.
