A drunk driving suspect was arrested at the scene of a crash in Leesburg.
Officers were called Friday afternoon to the 100 block of East North Avenue after 32-year-old Michael Angelo Cortez of Leesburg was involved in the traffic accident, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. When officers arrived and met with Cortez, they could smell a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and he appeared to be intoxicated.
Cortez admitted to the officers that he had recently consumed one or two glasses of wine before the accident. He agreed to participate in standardized field sobriety exercises, but performed poorly. Cortez was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence. The vehicle he had been driving was turned over to the woman who is its registered owner.
Cortez was taken to the Leesburg Police Station where he provided breath alcohol samples which registered .201 and .208 blood alcohol content. After being processed at the police station he was transported to the Lake County Jail where he posted $1,000 bond.
