A passenger with drugs tucked in his cigarette pack was arrested in Leesburg after a traffic stop.

A Lake County sheriff’s deputy was traveling south on Radio Road at about 10:30 p.m. Monday when he saw a blue Nissan car cross over the fog line onto the grass. The deputy initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Radio Road and Silver Bluff Drive in Leesburg.

The deputy approached the stopped car on the passenger’s side and obtained the driver’s license and identification of the passenger, 31-year-old Christopher M. Decotis of Leesburg. The deputy asked the driver for permission to search the vehicle. The driver gave his permission for the search as did the passenger.

The deputy searched Decotis first and then the area in which he had been sitting. The deputy found a L&M cigarette pack in the passenger side door pocket where only the passenger would have close access to the pack. The cigarette pack contained both methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Decotis was placed under arrest for two counts of possession of controlled substances and was transported to the Lake County Jail where he posted $4,000 bond.

Decotis has had several arrests in Lake County including one for fighting with deputies last May while being arrested for theft from his employer.
