A man was arrested after allegedly attempting to steal beer from Wawa in Leesburg.
The on-duty manager at Wawa contacted Leesburg Police at about 10:23 p.m. Sunday after 32-year-old Sean Rigsby entered the store he had been previously trespassed from, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
An officer arrived at the store and was directed to the walk-in beer cooler. Rigsby approached the officer, who then noticed a bulge shaped like a beer bottle on the right side of Rigsby’s hoodie. The officer asked Rigsby to hand him the bottle, to which Rigsby complied, said the report.
The officer detained Rigsby in handcuffs while he confirmed a prior trespassing incident in January 2021. The officer also confirmed that Rigsby grabbed a Corona Extra from the beer cooler and placed it in his hoodie.
Rigsby was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail after completing the booking process.
A check revealed Rigsby had at least 8 prior theft convictions. In July 2020, he was arrested after being accused of shoplifting at a Dollar General in Leesburg. He was jailed after stealing food from a Wawa in Lady Lake during August of that year, as well.
Rigsby was charged with retail petit theft with two or more prior convictions and trespass after a warning. Bond was set at $3,000.
