Lake Sumter State College is offering a six-week course for aspiring podcasters starting Feb. 21 at its Leesburg campus.

Classes for “Broadcast Journalism – Podcasting the Course” will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays and will be offered in both the morning and evening. The morning class runs from 10 a.m. to noon, with the evening class from 6 to 8 p.m.

The instructor is David Denault, a former weekly newspaper columnist, NPR space correspondent, author, and Emmy Award-winning journalist. Denault’s podcast, “About Space Today,” is ranked No. 15 among 70 space podcasts in the world by Feedspot.

Prerequisites for the course are access to a computer, working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and basic writing and speaking skills. Participants will need to obtain a personal subscription to the Libsyn.com publishing platform ($5 per month, plus $2 for analytics).

The course is designed for those who seriously want to be a podcaster. Participants will develop their own podcast and publish one episode to complete the course.
