A Eustis man was arrested early Friday morning after drinking craft beer in Mount Dora.

A Eustis police officer was on patrol on South Bay Street when he clocked a white Mitsubishi car driving erratically at 63 mph in a 40 mph zone. The Mitsubishi had difficulty maintaining a lane, according to the arrest report.

The officer pulled over the vehicle at the intersection of East Lakeview Avenue and South Eustis Street where he made contact with the driver, 48-year-old Mark Richard Peeples.

The New York native had difficulty rolling down the passenger side window when the officer tried to speak with him. He also had difficulty removing his driver’s license from his wallet. The officer could smell alcohol on Peeples’ breath.

The officer asked Peeples to get out of his car. When the officer asked Peeples if he had been drinking, he told him that he had four beers at Serendipity Brews in Mount Dora and was on his way home. Peeples performed poorly in standardized field sobriety exercises.

The officer placed Peeples under arrest for DUI and conducted a patdown. The officer found a small Ruger .22-caliber pistol in Peeples’ pocket along with two loaded magazines. Peeples also told the officer that he had another pistol in a bag in the car. The officer put both guns in an evidence bag for safe keeping as the vehicle was going to be towed.

Peeples was taken to the Lake County Jail where he gave two breath samples which revealed a blood alcohol level of .118 and 179. He was released after posting $1,000 bond.
