A driver’s wrong way turn onto a one-way street sent his passenger to the Lake County Jail.

A Eustis police officer saw a white pickup truck on Sunday turn south onto North Grove Street which is a one-way street for northbound traffic.

The officer followed the truck for a short distance and stopped it when the truck got to the intersection of N. Eustis and East McDonald Avenue.

When the officer made contact with the driver and his passenger, 19-year-old Gabriel Angel Moreno of Leesburg, he could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the truck. As the officer talked with the driver another officer arrived on the scene to assist him. Due to the odor of marijuana, the officer asked both the driver and Moreno to exit the truck.

As Moreno got out of the truck an officer saw a clear plastic bag which contained a green leafy substance which field tested as marijuana. The officer also found a vape cartridge which tested as having a high concentration of THC. Neither party had a medical marijuana card. As the officer talked to the two men, Moreno admitted that the vape cartridge and marijuana belonged to him. He was placed under arrest for the possession of THC oil, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Moreno was taken to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $4,000 bond.
