A man charged with DUI manslaughter in the death of a 5-year-old boy has entered a plea in Lake County Court.
Daksh Wadhwa, 30, entered a plea of not guilty Thursday to charges of DUI manslaughter, DUI with serious bodily injury to another, possession of cocaine and smuggling contraband into a detention facility. Wadhwa has also retained an additional lawyer, Matt Olzewski to work on his behalf with lead counsel Rajan Joshi.
Wadhwa, who resides in Tavares, had been driving BMW on Oct. 29 in Lake County when his car crossed over the center line and crashed head-on with a Honda Civic in which the child was a passenger. The Civic was driven by his mother, who lives in Mount Dora.The child died Oct. 30 at Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando. The woman was seriously injured and transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Wadhwa provided a breath sample that registered .189 blood alcohol content. He was also found to be in possession of cocaine.
Wadhwa has been issued 21 traffic citations in Lake County since February of 2010.
