A Leesburg woman was arrested last week on drug possession charges in Eustis.
A Eustis police officer saw a red Saturn car swerve into the opposite lane of traffic while traveling southbound on Moir Street. The Saturn came to a complete stop just prior to the intersection of west Woodward Avenue and Morin Street. The officer activated his emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop at that intersection.
When the officer made contact with the driver, 42-year-old Shannon Louise Martin, he asked her why she had began to drive in the opposite lane of traffic. Martin stated “that she thought she was being chased by multiple people and that she was frightened by the officer’s car.”
When the officer was joined by two backup officers he asked Martin if she had anything illegal in her car. She replied, “I’m not a liar” and told the officer that “I have a pipe and some stuff in my purse.” The officers searched her car and found drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine.
Martin was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia . She was taken to the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $3,000.
