A 57-year-old man was arrested on drug charges in the parking lot of Family Discount Mart in Leesburg.

Officers were conducting proactive enforcement Nov. 4 in the area of Griffin Road and Tally Road when they spotted a white Kia sedan run a stop sign, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Officers initiated a traffic stop on the Kia which pulled into the store’s parking lot.

When an officer made contact with the driver, he was given a Florida driver’s license which identified the driver as being Rudolph McCray of Leesburg. The officer noticed that McCray appeared to be nervous. When the officer asked if there was any contraband in the car he saw McCray jam his right index finger into the center console as McCray admitted to having a pipe used to smoke crack cocaine. The officer saw him starting to move his finger around and he could see that McCray was leaving a white smudge where his finger was moving. He also saw a small white rock-like substance on the console which later field tested as crack cocaine.

McCray was removed from the car and placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence. After processing at the police station he was taken to the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $8,000 bond.
