A Leesburg man clad only in his underwear and a T-shirt was arrested after grabbing a woman and damaging a car.
The woman at about 10:30 a.m. Nov. 5 pulled into a parking lot located at Five Star Seaford at 7609 U.S. Hwy. 441 in Leesburg while trying to locate her doctor’s office, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. She got out of her car and asked asked a man, later identified as 43-year-old Andrew Moore Luckhurst, for directions. Luckhurst grabbed her arm and keys. She was able to get away from him and called 911.
Before the police could arrive, an employee of the restaurant saw Luckhurst smash the rear window of his 2022 Toyota Camry with a rock and then push a PVC pole through the hole.
When a Leesburg officer arrived on the scene, he found Luckhurst laying in the parking lot wearing only his underwear and a T-shirt. Luckhurst told the officer that he was dead and would not identify himself. The officer placed him under arrest and transported him to UF Health-Leesburg Hospital for medical clearance where Luckhurst became more coherent and was able provide his name.
After being cleared by the hospital, Luckhurst was charged with one count of criminal mischief less than $1,000. He was transported to the Lake County Jail where he was released on his own recognizance to be treated at a local mental health facility.
