A 20-year-old employee of the Mount Dora Walmart admitted to stealing money from a cash register a day after being caught trying to walk out of the store with $600 in merchandise he didn’t pay for.
Victor Luis Rosado, of 197 Mae St. in Eustis, was charged with grand theft of $750 or more and tampering with evidence after being arrested Sunday night at the store, located at 17030 U.S. 441.
Rosado was stopped by a door monitor on Saturday night after passing all points of sale with four items valued at $604.94. The items were recovered and store management was notified as Rosado left the area. On Sunday night, a manager pulled Rosado into the office for questioning after a security employee observed him on CCTV cameras taking cash out of register #23 and putting it into his pocket, according to the Mount Dora Police report.
During the interview, Rosado excused himself and asked to use the restroom. He then concealed the cash in a dispenser on the wall inside the stall he was using. Walmart management later recovered $1,713 in the restroom, the report said.
Rosado also said he used money he stole from the store and loaded an Xbox gift card with it. It was determined that Rosado has stolen more money and items that were not recovered prior to his arrest. Rosado said the stolen items were at his residence, according to the report.
Rosado was placed under arrest and taken to the Lake County Jail, where he’s being held on $4,000 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in Lake County Court on Dec. 5. Walmart management also asked for him to be trespassed from the property as well.
