A suspected thief was tracked down by a Leesburg police officer Tuesday afternoon as she fled from the Dollar General store on South 14th Street.

The Leesburg Police Department had received a report of a woman leaving the store without paying for several items she had put in her purse. Store clerks told the police that the woman fled on a white bicycle and was wearing a black T-shirt. An officer saw a woman riding a white bike east on Dixie Avenue who fit the description of the alleged shoplifter, according to the arrest report.

The officer stopped 36-year-old Tanya Inez Domenech and asked her where she was coming from and was told she was coming from her sister’s house. Domenech denied being at the Dollar General. When asked by the officer to empty her bags she agreed and produced several bottles of body wash and lotion from her purse. The officer was contacted by an officer who had gone to the Dollar General store who said a store video showed the suspect putting body wash and lotion in a purse. Domenech was restrained by the officer and was taken to the Dollar General store where she was identified by the store personnel as the woman in the security video. A criminal history search revealed that she had two prior theft convictions.

The Massachusetts native was transported to the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $6,000 for felony theft and resisting a merchant while committing a retail theft.
