Lake County man dies after crashing into utility pole

A Lake County man has died after crashing into a utility pole.

The 23-year-old Groveland man was driving a 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo at 5:26 p.m. Friday at County Road 33 and Odom Lane north of Mascotte in rural Lake County when his vehicle ran off the roadway and hit the pole, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

He was transported by ambulance to Blue Cedar Hospital where he died of injuries suffered in the crash.

The investigation into the crash shut down County Road 33 from Simon Brown Road to Bridges Road until about 9:30 p.m. The crash remains under investigation.

The report noted the man had been wearing his seatbelt.
