A 49-year-old woman is behind bars after she allegedly stabbed her former roommate while they were in the process of moving out of their apartment in Leesburg.
Meghan Simpson Borsher, whose address is listed as 115 E. Citrus Blvd. in Eustis, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after the incident, which happened around 6 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment on Washington Street. Borsher is being held on $10,000 bond in the Lake County Jail.
The victim told a Leesburg police officer that Borsher had been temporarily living with him and they were supposed to be out of the apartment at the end of the month. He said he moved out Tuesday and came back Wednesday to confirm the apartment was empty due to him being on the lease. The victim said he unlocked the door, entered the apartment and saw Borsher standing behind the kitchen door, according to the police report.
The victim said he demanded that Borsher leave the premises, and when he approached her, Borsher slashed him with a foldable pocketknife with a black handle, causing a 4-inch laceration on his right lower forearm. He said he went back outside and Borsher started throwing miscellaneous items from inside the apartment at him, the report said.
Borsher told the officer she had been roommates with the victim for about six weeks. She confirmed the victim moved his items out of the apartment earlier in the week. Borsher said she had an agreement with the apartment complex manager that she could stay until Friday, but the victim had no knowledge of the agreement, according to the report.
Borsher said she came out of the bathroom and saw the victim standing in the living room. She said the victim startled her and started yelling at her. Borsher said the victim charged towards her and she threw a laundry basket at him. She said the basket contained a broken mason bar inside an old food container, and the glass struck the victim’s arm and caused him to bleed. Borsher said she retreated to the bedroom and heard the victim leave the apartment, the report said.
A neighbor said she heard a lot of yelling in the apartment but did not observe the incident, according to the report.
The officer searched the apartment and found the pocketknife the victim described in the bathroom. The knife had no blood on it. The officer also found the laundry basket in the living room with multiple blood splatters on it and the floor surrounding it. The only piece of glass the officer found was outside the front door, with miscellaneous items surrounding it. No blood was found on the broken glass, the report said.
The officer determined the laceration on the victim’s arm was consistent with being caused by a knife and placed Borsher under arrest. She will appear in Lake County Court on June 27.
