Masquerade ball to benefit library in Howey-in-the-Hills

Tickets are on sale for a masquerade ball to benefit the Marianne Beck Memorial Library in Howey-in-the-Hills.

The Howey-in-the-Hills Friends of the Library are putting on the event, which will be held Saturday, June 11, in the El Nuevo Mundo Ballroom at the Mission Inn Resort and Club.

The evening will include a cocktail hour, dinner, silent auction, and a night of dancing with a DJ. The host for the evening will be Carey Baker, the Lake County Property Appraiser. George Taylor, the Director of the Lake County Library System, will also be a guest speaker.

The Howey Friends of the Library sponsor many programs and events of the Marianne Beck Memorial Library such as their weekly literacy programs, the Summer Reading Program, chess tournaments, and their monthly Meet the Artist event. Friends of the Library President Kathy Coleman says, “With the need for a further expansion of programs and services, the Friends of the Library are excited to host this fundraiser. We look forward to making this an annual event.”

Individual tickets are $100. Cost of a 10-person table is $900. Tickets can be purchased online at Eventbrite or at the Marianne Beck Memorial Library. The deadline for purchasing tickets is May 23.

The Howey-in-the-Hills Friends of the Library is a 501(c)3 organization. The FOL have been instrumental in raising funds for much-needed library equipment and programming. In 2019-2020, they raised money to fund an expansion to the library. This expansion, the Library Education Center, is available for use for library-sponsored programs or, if scheduling permits, nonprofits as well.
