A 22-year-old Leesburg woman is accused of stealing three bottles of alcohol from a discount liquor store and battering the elderly clerk who tried to stop her.
Amanda Doris Coulliette, of 207 Snow Place Unit C, was charged with simple battery on a victim 65 years or older and felony retail theft. She has four prior convictions for petit theft and jail records show she was arrested twice in March for trespassing.
The incident took place at around 11 a.m. Wednesday. The name and location of the store were withheld from the Leesburg Police Department report. The clerk, who is 69 years old, told officers that Coulliette took a bottle of St. Remy ($30), a bottle of Svedka ($18), and a bottle of Redemption ($47) and tried to leave with them. The employee said when he tried to stop her, Coulliette resisted and pushed him, according to the report.
The clerk provided video of the incident. Officers observed Coulliette stealing the alcohol as well as resisting and battering the elderly clerk, the report said.
After a brief search, officers found Coulliette on Waitman Avenue near Tuskegee Street. By the time they caught up with her, they were unable to locate the stolen items, according to the report.
Coulliette is being held in the Lake County Jail on $4,000 bond and will appear in Lake County Court on May 31.
