A Lake County deputy teamed up with a Leesburg police officer early Sunday morning to apprehend a suspected drunk driver.

The deputy observed a car driving north on 14th Street near Griffin Road in Leesburg. The car’s headlights were not on so the deputy turned on her emergency lights and stopped the driver when she pulled into the Rural King parking lot. The deputy was joined by the Leesburg officer who learned from the deputy that she had seen the driver, 31-year-old Emily Nicole Kukulski, strike a construction barrel.

The Leesburg officer had Kukulski perform standardized field sobriety exercises which showed signs of impairment. Kukulski was placed under arrest and was taken to the Leesburg Police Department where she refused to take a breathalyzer test. A records check showed that Kukulski has a previous DUI conviction. She was transported to the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $1,000 for her second driving under the influence.
