A Leesburg teen who admitted to drinking shots of vodka was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence.

Nadeya Nicole Chandler, 19, was spotted driving a white Chevy car with no functioning tag light on St. Patrick’s Day. A Fruitland Park police officer ran the car’s license plate number through a database and discovered the vehicle’s registered owner had a driver’s license suspended for underage drinking.

The officer stopped Chandler near the intersection of State Road 25 and Grizzard Street. Chandler initially said she lost her driver’s license and then said she thought her mother had her license. A records check showed that Chandler’s license had been suspended on Feb. 20 for underage drinking.

The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from Chandler, according to the arrest report. When asked to perform standardized field sobriety exercises she showed signs of impairment. She admitted to drinking two shots of Skyy vodka. As she was being transported to the Lake County Jail, the officer noted she kept nodding off. She provided a breath sample which showed a blood alcohol level of .085 and .088.

A search of her vehicle turned up marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

She was booked at the Lake County Jail on charges of driving under the influence and driving while license suspended. She was ticketed for operating a vehicle with no visible tag light.
