A daughter visiting her mother was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly stealing a golf cart from a Leesburg age-restricted development.

Employees of the Mid Florida Lakes 55+ mobile home community noticed that the company-owned golf cart was missing, according to an arrest from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. When they reviewed surveillance video from the clubhouse and pool area, they saw a white female, later identified as 39-year-old Sarai Morgan, dressed in dark clothing wandering around the retirement community. The video showed the woman getting into the cart at 2:40 a.m. and driving away.

The employees began searching for the golf cart. A maintenance man found Morgan sitting in the golf cart in the development’s dog park. When he asked Morgan, “Who’s golf cart are you on?,” she replied “Yours.” She gathered her belongings and started to walk away, but the employee told her to wait for the arrival of a Lake County deputy.

The Georgia native refused to speak to the deputy other than to tell him she had been at Mid Florida Lakes visiting her mother. She said she “planned to leave this morning, until this happened.”

She was arrested on a charge of grand theft and booked at the Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $2,000.
