Motorcyclist killed in Lake County after knocked from bike after hitting tree

A motorcyclist was killed in Lake County after being knocked from his bike after hitting a tree.

The 52-year-old Dade City man was riding a motorcycle at 10:35 a.m. Sunday on Austin Merritt Road near Dusty Lane when for an “unknown reason” he left the roadway and traveled through a fence, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The motorcycle hit a tree and the man was knocked off, the report said. He had been wearing a helmet, the report noted.

He was transported to South Lake Hospital where he died of injuries suffered in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
