Failing to obey a stop sign resulted in the arrest of a Summerfield woman early Tuesday morning for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and introduction of contraband into a controlled facility.
Shelley Varnum, 34, was a passenger in a Ford pickup truck which failed to come to a complete stop when exiting a parking lot onto U.S. Hwy. 27 in Leesburg. A Lake County sheriff’s deputy observed the traffic infraction and stopped the truck. The deputy smelled what appeared to be marijuana when the driver opened his window. Deputies searched the truck after having the driver and Varnum exit the vehicle. A black zippered bag was found where Varnum was sitting which contained methamphetamine and also contained items which had Shelly Varnum’s name on them, according to the deputy’s arrest report.
He noted in his report that Varnum seemed nervous when the deputy told her that she was going to be arrested and that she could be facing other charges if she took contraband into the jail. Varnum was then transported to the Lake County Jail where she was searched as part of the booking process. Deputies found both a glass smoking device and a baggie containing meth under her breasts. A second glass smoking device was found hidden in her vagina.
Varnum was charged with possession of methamphetamine, introduction of contraband into a controlled facility as well as possession of drug paraphernalia with bond set at $5,000.
