A Leesburg man has been sentenced to jail time as the result of a drunk driving arrest after leaving the Funky Monkey in Mount Dora.
Judge Emily Curington sentenced 28-year-old Daniel Adan Benavides to 15 days in the Lake County Jail. He also has been placed on probation for one year and will lose his driver’s license for one year. In addition to fines, he was also ordered to participate in a victim awareness program, DUI school and treatment.
A Eustis police officer spotted a black Cadillac driven by Benavides at 12:33 a.m. Nov. 14 failed to come to a complete stop at an intersection at County Road 452 and County Road 19A. Benavides smelled of alcohol and exhibitted balance issues when he got out of his car, according to an arrest report. He refused to participate in standardized field sobriety exercises and would not provide a breath sample.
He was arrested in 2019 in Leesburg on a drunk driving charge, but it was later reduced to reckless driving.
