A Leesburg teen was busted with more than 20 grams of marijuana and a scale at a children’s playground in Clermont.
Jason Boone, 18, was sitting in the passenger seat of a car Wednesday night when the Clermont Police Department received a tip that three suspicious cars were in the children’s playground after dark.
When an officer entered the lot, he saw three people in one of the cars. The individual in the driver’s seat rolled down the window when the officer approached the car.
“A cloud of smoke emitting the smell of burnt marijuana exited the window,” according to the officer’s arrest report. When the three men got out of the car they began to be verbally aggressive toward the Clermont officer who called for backup. When the backup officers arrived, the three young men were put in restraints as the officers searched the suspect’s car.
Officers found a backpack on the floor in front of the passenger seat. The backpack contained two Mason jars, one of which was full of what field tested as marijuana, $270 in cash and scales for weighing drugs. The bag also contained a debit card in the name of Jason Boone who the report identified as the individual sitting in the front passenger seat.
Boone was placed under arrest on a third degree felony of possession of more than 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked at the Lake County Jail with bond set at $2,500.
The other two men were not arrested.
