A 911 call led to the arrest of a drunk driving suspect at a Taco Bell restaurant in Leesburg.
The caller phoned in Sunday night and reported a black Dodge Ram pickup that was swerving across three lanes of traffic on U.S. Hwy. 27, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. The caller was “very concerned about the welfare of the driver,” the report noted.
The driver turned into a parking spot at Taco Bell, backed out and then pulled into the drive-through lane. An officer approached the vehicle as it was in the drive-through lane.
The driver was identified as 40-year-old Ashminkumar Patel of Leesburg. He initially offered the officer an expired Canadian driver’s license. He had been arrested last year on a drunk driving charge.
It appeared Patel had been drinking and he struggled through field sobriety exercises. He provided breath samples that registered .170 and .173 blood alcohol content.
He was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
