A Leesburg man was arrested while allegedly trying to swallow evidence during a traffic stop.
Eustis police officers were on patrol late Sunday night on South Bay Street when they saw a white pickup with a non-functioning tag light. A traffic stop was initiated.
The driver produced a Florida driver’s license which identified him as 48-year-old Walter Tomon. The officer noted that Tomon was visibly shaking, according to the arrest report. The officer asked Tomon if he had a medical marijuana card. Tomon told the officer that he did not have a card, but admitted he had some marijuana. He produced a metal box which contained two baggies and a glass pipe. The contents of the baggies tested positive as marijuana and the glass pipe had a white crystalline residue. The officer then told Tomon to exit the truck.
As Tomon got out of the truck, the officer saw two baggies in his right hand. When he was asked what he had in his hand, the South Carolina native quickly jammed the baggies into his mouth. The officer then forced Tomon onto the ground and placed him under arrest. Tomon then spit the baggies out of his mouth. Field tests showed the baggies contained methamphetamine.
Tomon was booked at the Lake County Jail for possession of methamphetamine, tampering with evidence, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $6,000 which he posted the next day.
