A man driving a white Mercedes was arrested on a drunk driving charge during last weekend’s Leesburg Bikefest.
Robert Sanchez Herrera, 33, was weaving and changing lanes without using a turn signal prompting a traffic stop on Hood Avenue just north of State Road 44, according to an arrest report written by an officer working on a DUI task force during Bikefest.
When the officer approached the Mercedes, it appeared Herrera was having some difficulty putting the car in park. Herrera presented the officer with a Mexican identification card as well as an expired New Mexico driver’s license. While talking to Herrera, the officer noted he could detect a strong odor of alcohol coming from Herrera, who was swaying back and forth. Herrera said he had consumed one margarita.
Herrera agreed to perform standard field sobriety exercises and performed poorly on the tests. Herrera agreed to take a breathalyzer test which produced a blood alcohol level result of .189 on the first sample and .187 on the second sample. Herrera was booked at the Lake County Jail on charges of driving under the influence and driving on an expired drivers license. He was released after posting $3,000 bond.
