A Leesburg cook allegedly used a four-quart culinary-style pot to batter his wife.

Leesburg police were dispatched Monday morning to a house located in the 200 block of Lee Meadows Avenue. A woman said her husband, 29-year-old Joshua Atkins, had attacked her with the cooking pot. The officer saw a gash on her left arm which was covered in blood. The woman told the officer that she told Atkins that she wanted a divorce. Her husband, who is employed as a cook, became enraged, grabbed her by her hair and dragged her into a breezeway. He grabbed the cooking pot and hit her on the arm. Atkins fled on a green bicycle.

Later that day Fruitland Park officers arrested Atkins at his mother’s house and delivered him to the Leesburg Police Department where he was charged with felony domestic battery. A records check showed that Atkins has three prior felony battery convictions.

Atkins was booked at the Lake County Jail on $10,000 bond.
