A Leesburg man driving on a suspended license was arrested with a marijuana bong after a traffic stop in Sumter County.

Earnest Eugene Jones, 22, who lives at 303 S. Chester St., was driving a white 2007 Chevrolet passenger car at 12:53 p.m. Wednesday near Bushnell when a check of the vehicle’s license plate revealed the vehicle’s registered owner had a suspended license, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Jones “admitted he knew his license was suspended, claiming he had just been notified 20 minutes prior,” the report said.

A K-9 alerted on the vehicle indicating the likely presence of drugs. A search of the vehicle turned up a bong-style pipe which had the residue of marijuana.

He was arrested on charges of driving while license suspended and possession of drug equipment. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $1,500 bond.
