A Leesburg woman was arrested after she reportedly slammed a door on the arm of an officer there to arrest her on a warrant.

Leesburg Police arrived shortly after 8 a.m. May 15 to 1628 Sterns Drive to arrest 40-year-old Candaece Jacquese Nic Chatman, who lives at the residence. Chatman had an active warrant through Lake County for shooting into an occupied dwelling, according to the police report.

As backup units arrived, one of the officers started knocking on the door and then backed away. The officer heard the door unlock and the door open as Chatman – identified through her driver’s license photo – peeked out the door frame. Chatman identified herself as Candaece, the report said.

Officers started to approach the door, identifying themselves as police and giving loud commands for Chatman to step outside. Chatman immediately refused and tried to aggressively slam the door shut, but an officer was able get his arm inside to keep the door from shutting. The door closed on the officer’s right forearm and left thumb, causing a small laceration and minor abrasion, according to the report.

Chatman continued to aggressively apply pressure to the door in an effort to close it and elude capture. Officers were eventually able to get inside, where Chatman continued to resist by refusing to place her hands behind her back and continually pulling away from officers, the report said.

Chatman was finally placed under arrest and charged with resisting an officer with violence, as well as the four counts of shooting a missile into a dwelling. She was taken to the Lake County Jail, where she was released on $22,000 bond. Chatman will appear in Lake County Court on June 7 on the resisting charge and June 7 on the other charges.
