Rev. Joseph A. Ferreira of Leesburg, Florida, formerly of Pawnee, Illinois, died peacefully at home on Friday, March 27, 2020. He was born November 20, 1927 in Lisbon, Portugal, the son of Manuel and Lourdes A. Ferreira. He married Mary Jo Peel on July 25, 1953; she preceded him in death on May 20, 2016.
He is survived by daughters, Linda (Don) Schneider, Springfield IL and Gloria Ferreira, Sacramento CA, son, Paul (Kim) Ferreira, Jacksonville FL; four grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Dan (Cheryl) Ferreira, Sarasota FL and sister, Ruth (Dale) Schweinberger, San Marcos CA; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Joel Keith; and brother, Charles.
Joseph attended Toccoa Falls Institute in Georgia and Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago. He served American Baptist Churches in Illinois. In addition, he taught high school Spanish. After his retirement and move to Florida, he continued his ministerial service with the American Baptist Churches of the South Region.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Good News Church of Central Florida in Leesburg FL on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 3:00 p.m.
