COVID-19 has claimed two more local residents as deaths from the fast-spreading virus continued to pile up across the state.
The local fatalities were residents of Marion County. They are among the 1,137 tri-county deaths, the 26,249 in Florida and the 427,513 across the country.
All told, Florida is reporting 1,676,171 cases – an increase of 8,408 from Tuesday to Wednesday. Of those, 1,645,507 are residents. A total of 74,992 cases have been reported in long-term care centers and 28,909 in correctional facilities. Across the state, 71,155 people have been hospitalized.
Locally, Lake County is reporting 21,131 COVID-19 cases – an increase of 159 in a 24-hour period. There have been 388 deaths and 1,132 people have been hospitalized.
Leesburg is now reporting 3,344 cases – an overnight increase of 21. Others have been identified in Clermont (5,578), Eustis (1,896), Mount Dora (1,634), Tavares (1,542), Groveland (1,418), Lady Lake (1,234), Minneola (595), Sorrento (594), Fruitland Park (560), Umatilla (499), Mascotte (429), Grand Island (278), Montverde (262), Howey-in-the-Hills (158), Astatula (154), Altoona (153), The Villages (146), Paisley (90), Astor (79), Yalaha (57), Okahumpka (39), Mount Plymouth (11) and Ferndale (8).
