A 23-year-old Leesburg man was jailed early Saturday morning on a litany of charges after police officers spotted him circling the parking lot of a local hotel.

Leesburg Police officers arrested 23-year-old Detauris Tyrell Bass early Saturday morning after finding drugs and a stolen handgun in his vehicle, a report states.

Two Leesburg Police officers were conducting surveillance at the Sleep Inn, located at 2476 Citrus Blvd., as part of an ongoing anti-crime detail during the holidays when they spotted a suspicious vehicle circling the hotel’s parking lot. The driver, later identified as Detauris Tyrell Bass, eventually parked and went inside the hotel, a report states.

The officers investigated the vehicle and in plain view observed what appeared to be cocaine and marijuana inside small plastic baggies in the console area of the car. They then went inside the hotel and made contact with Bass, who had a suspended license. He was detained while officers searched the vehicle and found a .357-caliber Magnum revolver that had been reported stolen out of Mount Dora in July, the report says.

Bass, who lives at 1510 Hampton Rd. in Leesburg, was placed under arrest and transported to the Leesburg Police Department for processing. He was then transferred to the Lake County Jail, where he was charged with dealing in/trafficking stolen property, possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and driving while license suspended (second offense). He was released Saturday morning on $14,000 bond and is due in court Jan. 11 at 8:30 a.m., jail records show.
