Paul Wilson Witt Sr.

Paul Wilson Witt, Sr., 88, of Leesburg, FL died on Dec. 7, 2020 surrounded by his family.

Paul was born on Oct. 29, 1932 in Mt. Savage, MD to George C. and Cecelia (Komatz) Witt, Sr. He attended local schools and joined the US Navy upon graduation. He was assigned to the carrier USS Lake Champlain which had been removed from mothballs to patrol in the vicinity of Cuba. Paul retired from Kelly-Springfield Tire Company after over 35 years of faithful service as an engineer responsible for the installation and setup for tire manufacture machinery. Paul was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Community in Leesburg, honorary member of The Knights of Columbus, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Okahumpka, FL and the American Legion. He had a zest for life and never took life for granted. He loved riding his pearl white 2003 Harley Road King Anniversary Edition and took his wife Paula on the first of her many motorcycle rides. Paul loved dancing, was so very light on his feet and could outlast most dance partners. He loved all types of dance music, especially 60’s, but wasn’t at all fond of line dancing. Not likely to sit quietly, he biked 6 miles every day. Paul was an avid pool player, bowled a 300 game in the Las Vegas Senior Playoff and had a hole-in-one on a nearby golf course. He and Paula loved to travel and logged in many miles and National Parks in five years He loved traveling his country.

Paul is survived by his wife Paula, son Paul Witt, Jr. of Leesburg, daughter Suzan (Greg) Cousino of Arizona,, brother George C. Witt, Jr. of Indiana and sister Kathleen (Jim) Anderson of California. He also leaves his step children Terry Wolcott and Scott Milroy, 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Paul was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Rose Marie Witt and two sons, Thomas and Edward.

Paul’s Life will be Celebrated at Florida National Cemetery on Friday, December 18 at 11:30 AM and his service will be recognized by military honors by the US Navy Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 17 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Beyers Funeral Home, Leesburg, FL.
