Six more local residents have succumbed to COVID-19 as the deadly virus is showing no signs of slowing down across Florida and the tri-county area.
Five of the latest fatalities lived in Marion County and one was a resident of Lake County. That brought the total number of deaths in the tri-county area to 769.
All told, Florida is reporting 1,065,785 cases – an increase of 7,711 from Sunday to Monday. Of those, 1,048,264 are residents. A total of 57,874 cases have been reported in long-term care centers and 25,905 in correctional facilities. Across the state, there have been 19,529 deaths and 56,607 people have been hospitalized.
Locally, Lake County is reporting 11,301 cases – an increase of 118 in a 24-hour period. There have been 261 deaths and 884 people hospitalized.
Leesburg is reporting 1,848 cases – an increase of 16 in a 24-hour period. Others have been identified in Clermont (3,014), Tavares (966), Eustis (941), Mount Dora (883), Groveland (792), Lady Lake (559), Sorrento (305), Minneola (304), Mascotte (275), Fruitland Park (268), Umatilla (255), Montverde (159), Grand Island (129), Howey-in-the-Hills (89), Astatula (87), The Villages (68), Altoona (58), Astor (56), Paisley (47), Yalaha (36), Okahumpka (20), Ferndale (6) and Mount Plymouth (5).
