Two drive-through food distribution events are planned this month for Lake-Sumter State College students.

At May’s food distribution event, the LSSC Foundation distributed more than 41,000 pounds of food to more than 1,300 people. Following that success – and thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor – the LSSC Foundation has partnered with Lake Cares Food Pantry and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida to bring these events to North and South Lake Counties for LSSC students.

At each event, more than 20,000 pounds of food will be distributed. LSSC students will receive nutritious meal ingredients and fresh produce to last more than a week.

Hunger Action Month is a time to mobilize the public to take action on the issue of hunger. All month long, Feeding America and its network of food banks, including Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, are encouraging people to take action through volunteerism, advocacy, special events and promotions.

Hunger Action Day (Sept. 10) is a time for hunger-relief advocates to focus efforts on one day for greater impact. Information for LSSC students is available by clicking HERE.

These events are open to any LSSC student currently enrolled for the fall semester. That includes approximately 5,000 students.
