A Leesburg man wanted in a domestic violence case was arrested after being caught with two bags of marijuana and a jar of cannabis wax.

Police spotted a white Acura 4D with dark tinted windows and black rims leaving an apartment complex in Leesburg at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

The vehicle and the location matched the description of 30-year-old Shuvaun Jamall Faniel, who had an active Lake County warrant for aggravated battery on a pregnant victim, the report said.

The officer watched as the vehicle entered the gas station parking lot across from the apartment complex, the report said. As the officer approached in his own vehicle, he saw Faniel standing next to the driver’s side door.

Faniel was told he was under arrest as the officer detained him, at which point Faniel stated his son was in the car. He requested to have the child’s mother pick him up while the warrant was confirmed with Lake County, the report said.

The officer then began to search Faniel’s vehicle, the report said. A black leather backpack was found on the front passenger seat. Inside the pack were two plastic baggies containing a green leafy substance, a small glass jar containing yellow wax and a small digital scale.

Once these items were collected, Faniel was transported to the Leesburg Police Department’s adult booking room. He watched the officers test the different substances. At one point, he spontaneously uttered that the wax was in fact marijuana.

While Faniel was booked, officers continued to weigh and test the collected substances. One plastic baggie weighed 26.2 grams with the other weighing in at 1.6 grams. Both tested positive for marijuana. The yellow wax weighed 0.7 grams and tested positive for cannabis.

Due to the results of the tests, Faniel was charged with possession of controlled substances for THC wax and cannabis. He was transported to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $6,500 bond. A court date was set for April 24.

Faniel was also arrested in April 2022 on similar charges after being stopped for overly tinted windows.
