Lake County firefighters were forced to break up a fight during an emergency call in Leesburg.

Lake County Fire Rescue responded to a medical emergency Dec. 4 at a residence located in the 100 block of Singapore Island Road. While there, the firemen witnessed an altercation occurring in the street near their truck and called law enforcement.

Timothy Douglas, 60, told a Lake County sheriff’s deputy that he had been called to the scene by his neighbor’s wife who said her husband needed medical help. After EMS personnel arrived on the scene, Douglas said he was outside standing in the street where another neighbor had followed him in a golf cart. Douglas said that when the EMS personnel were helping the ill man from his house the man in the golf cart shouted out to the patient’s wife, “I hope Ted dies.” He then hollered that he hoped that Ted’s wife would “lose her other leg,” the report said. The man started to shout at Douglas saying something about his daughter being next, according to the arrest report. At that point, Douglas picked up a small flag pole and poked the man, ripping his shirt. The man retaliated by hitting Douglas several times in the face. At that point, firefighters ran over and stopped the fight.

The man who had been struck with the flag pole said he was sitting in his golf cart when Douglas attacked him.

Douglas was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $10,000 bond.
