A defective taillight led to the arrest of a habitual traffic offender in Leesburg.

A Lake County sheriff’s deputy on Oct. 15 observed a gray Toyota car traveling south on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 near the intersection with Martin Luther King Boulevard in Leesburg. The Toyota appeared to have some difficulty maintaining a lane and had a defective left taillight.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, 35-year-old Michael Young of Orlando. The deputy made a records search request through the Lake County Communications Center which revealed that Young had been classified as being a habitual traffic offender whose license was revoked in 2021.

Young was issued a criminal citation for driving while license revoked. He was taken to the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $2,000 bond.
