A Leesburg woman was arrested after hiding fentanyl near her groin during a traffic stop near a recreation complex.
An officer on patrol observed a male driver and a female passenger, 27-year-old Brittany Nicole Adams, traveling on Griffin Road in a blue Dodge pickup truck around 10:30 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
While behind the vehicle, the officer saw it leave its lane twice and cross the center double line. It also proceeded past the stop bar at the intersection with Thomas Avenue while the light was red. He subsequently stopped the vehicle near the Leesburg Recreation Complex, located at 1851 Griffin Rd., the report said.
The driver advised that he was feeling okay, but he drove like that because he was lying with the dog in the middle seat of his single-cab truck. A K-9 unit then responded to the traffic stop, alerting to the odor of narcotics in the vehicle. Adams and the driver were subsequently removed so it could be searched, the report said.
The officers first found two clear empty baggies on the passenger floorboard. They moved on to a pink shoulder bag that Adams was holding on her lap at the start of the traffic stop. It contained Narcan, gloves, rolled pieces of foil and feminine clothing, the report said.
There was also a cut red straw with white powder residue inside a red zippered pouch on the passenger side. Another straw next to the seatbelt buckle contained more residue, the report said.
Due to these discoveries, the officers conducted a search of Adams. An officer felt a bulge near her groin, which turned out to be a rolled piece of foil and a baggie with white residue. The latter resembled the bags found on the floor of the vehicle, the report said.
Adams advised that the foil contained fentanyl, and unrolling it revealed a burnt substance. It did indeed test positive for fentanyl. She stated she smoked and snorted it. She also claimed ownership of the straws, the report said.
The officers also located a J.C. Higgins model 583.12 20-guage shotgun loaded with four rounds of 20-guage Birdshot. It was readily accessible behind the truck seats on an unlocked rifle rack. A criminal history check of Adams revealed five felony convictions, the report said.
Adams knew about the firearm, but the driver told her that he would remove it. The driver later denied ever saying that, the report said.
She was ultimately arrested on charges of drug paraphernalia (possess or use), possession of weapon/ammo by convicted felon and tampering with evidence. She was booked at the Lake County Jail with bond set at $13,500.
Adams was also arrested in May 2025 for trespassing, in Jan. 2025 for narcotics and a firearm discovered at a gas station, and in Sept. 2022 with syringes and meth.
