A homeless man in Leesburg will appear in court for allegedly stealing $460 from Wawa, his place of employment.
An officer responded to Wawa, located at 3150 W Main St., regarding an employee taking money from the register on Friday, July 3, according to a case report from the Leesburg Police Department. The manager stated 25-year-old Michael Corey Bowser-Jones had stolen $460 in cash.
The manager explained that on June 27, she was counting the registers and noticed they were short $460. She reviewed security footage and saw Bowser-Jones taking the money. Human Resources told her to confront him and to call law enforcement, the report said.
When she did, Bowser-Jones admitted to the theft and wrote a statement for management. The store was requesting he be trespassed and prosecuted, the report said.
Bowser-Jones also spoke to law enforcement, stating he was currently homeless, going through a rough time and needed money to eat. He knew it was wrong and felt bad taking the money, the report said.
He was ultimately escorted off the property with a citation for retail theft. He is due to appear in court on July 28.
