A Clermont man was arrested after allegedly pushing his wife and punching her chest when she tried to leave their home.
A deputy responded to a battery involving 59-year-old Erik Matthew Theisen and his wife at their Clermont home at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Theisen was sitting in a chair in the living room by the time the deputy arrived. He was bleeding from his left hand and foot, but he gave a vague response when asked about it. The deputy asked again what happened, and he slowly started to talk, the report said.
He stated he was in a verbal altercation with his wife, during which she went to pick up his dogs on their patio. She closed the sliding glass door on his hand and left toe in the process. He did not feel her actions were intentional, prompting the deputy to ask what happened once more, the report said.
Theisen then added that the couple was in a verbal altercation that began in their bedroom. As his wife walked to the patio to get their dogs, he shoved her chest. She then closed the sliding glass door, leaving his injuries, the report said.
While waiting for EMS, the deputy spoke with the wife. She was visibly shaken by the incident and cried uncontrollably. She then advised that Theisen, a veteran, had been drinking since 6 p.m. the day before. She was packing up some of her clothes in their bedroom to leave when he repeatedly pushed her onto their bed by her chest, not allowing her to escape, the report said.
Out of fear, she locked herself in their bedroom closet. He then kicked the door down, allowing her to run toward the patio as he chased her. When he caught up to her, he punched her in the chest. She responded by closing the sliding glass door on his hand and foot, the report said.
She sustained what the deputy best described as knuckle marks on her chest, the report said.
Theisen was arrested on charges of false imprisonment (domestic) and battery (domestic). The Michigan native was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $3,500 bond.
