Merchants, residents and visitors coming to the historic downtown Leesburg business district should expect some traffic delays starting this weekend.
Crews will soon begin setting up for the 29th Annual Leesburg Bikefest. Most downtown streets and parking lots will remain open until Wednesday afternoon, but workers will be present throughout the area all week. The three-day event is set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 24-26.
Motorcycle enthusiasts, music lovers and visitors from around the country will fill the streets of the Lakefront City next weekend to enjoy free concerts, amazing bike shows and a variety of vendors. Scheduled musical headliners are Lita Ford on Friday, Everclear on Saturday, and Sister Hazel on Sunday.
Due to Bikefest street closures, the drive-through payment window at City Hall will be closed on Thursday, April 23, and Friday, April 24. Leesburg City Hall and the Municipal Services Center will close on Friday, April 24. The Leesburg Public Library will close at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, for Bikefest and will remain closed through Saturday, May 9, for scheduled maintenance. No library materials will be due during this closure period.
City offices will re-open on Monday, April 27, with regular operating hours. Many city services, including building permits, planning and zoning applications, and utility payments, can be conducted online at www.LeesburgFlorida.gov.
Drivers are encouraged to use extra caution and watch for motorcycles and pedestrians throughout the entire weekend. For those who would like to enjoy the event but do not want to drive, LakeXpress is once again operating a special Bikefest shuttle with stops from the Villages to Mount Dora.
