A Leesburg man was arrested for DUI after being stopped with a cooler of Heinekens and Hennessy, along with baggies of cocaine.
An officer noticed 58-year-old Evan Bernard Wilson driving a black SUV without its headlights on near Beecher Street and Waitman Avenue around 12:25 a.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
Flashing his high beams to alert Wilson to this fact was unsuccessful, so the officer pulled him over at the intersection of Tuskegee Street and Mara Court. As he walked up to the vehicle, he saw an open cooler with several bottles of Heineken beer and Hennessy in the backseat. One of the beer bottles looked to be half empty, the report said.
While speaking to Wilson, the officer observed his eyes to be bloodshot, red and glossy. He also had very slurred speech and fumbled with documents in his hand to find his insurance. He then used the door for support as he stepped out of his vehicle, the report said.
Wilson subsequently agreed to participate in field sobriety exercises. His performance, including loss of balance and difficulty following instructions, led the officer to conclude he was under the influence. He later provided breath samples of 0.108g/210L and 0.102g/210L of breath, the report said.
Additionally, a search of Wilson’s person revealed two small clear baggies of cocaine. They had a total weight of 1 gram, the report said.
Wilson was arrested on charges of DUI and possession of cocaine. The Mississippi native was booked at Lake County Jail and released after posting $3,500 bond.
