A Leesburg woman was arrested after allegedly hitting a man with her car and trying to stab him with a screwdriver.
Dispatch got a call from a male victim advising that 21-year-old Tonesa Aushiyeh Simpson Brewer had hit him with her vehicle and tried to stab him with a screwdriver at 5 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. She left the area in a gold vehicle and was last seen near the Microtel, located at 9700 U.S. Hwy. 441.
As an officer pulled up to the Microtel, he spotted the vehicle in the parking lot. But when Brewer saw him, she began to flee in the vehicle. She nearly crashed into his parked patrol car in the process, and attempts to find her were unsuccessful, the report said.
Law enforcement instead met with the victim and learned he had been walking in the parking lot of Ruby Tuesday, located at 9616 U.S. Hwy. 441, when he saw Brewer’s vehicle coming toward him. She then hit him with her car, forcing him to fall onto the hood of her vehicle. It abruptly stopped, and he fell into some nearby bushes this time, the report said.
He got up to start walking to his residence, only for Brewer to follow him in her vehicle. He was still en route when she got out to “chase” him with a glass wine bottle. He was able to evade her and get away, so she got back into her car and drove off, the report said.
However, once the victim was home and in the driver’s seat of his own vehicle, Brewer pulled up and parked behind him. She again approached him with the wine bottle, and as he got out of his car, she pulled out a screwdriver from her own vehicle. At that point, a physical altercation ensued, the report said.
Brewer picked up the wine bottle and tried to hit the victim with it, causing it to break during the “tussle” that followed. She also tried to stab him in the chest with the screwdriver at some point before leaving in her vehicle. This made him fear for his life, the report said.
A witness added that she saw the “tussle” and the attempted stabbing with the screwdriver. The victim pleaded for her to call 911 on his behalf, and she intervened to end the altercation. After that, Brewer fled to the Microtel parking lot, the report said.
The victim sustained injuries that were consistent with his statement. Officers found the broken glass wine bottle and the screwdriver used during the altercation, as well, the report said.
Brewer was ultimately arrested at Wawa, located at 1400 W N Blvd., on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and auto burglary (assault or battery). The Kentucky native was booked at Lake County Jail and released after posting $35,000 bond.
