A Eustis man was arrested for DUI after yelling at someone from a U-Haul truck in the Planet Fitness parking lot.

An officer responded to Planet Fitness at Palm Plaza, located at 735 N 14th St., regarding 57-year-old Joey Dean Jacobs yelling at someone out of a U-Haul around 7:15 p.m. Sunday, March 22, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

Upon arrival, Jacobs was still driving the U-Haul van slowly through the parking lot. He stated he had been yelling out to find a friend, who he could not name or identify. It was during this conversation the officer noticed a can of Natural Ice beer sitting in the right cup holder, the report said.

He then asked Jacobs to step out of the vehicle, and although he obeyed, he swayed and could not stand up straight. He blamed this on a knee injury, but he smelled of alcohol. There was also a visible shot bottle of Margaritaville tequila in the doorway of his vehicle, the report said.

Jacobs subsequently refused to participate in field sobriety exercises and was put in the back of a patrol vehicle. An inventory taken of his van revealed an empty bottle of Elevate vodka in the center console and an empty bottle of Skol premium vodka inside a black backpack, the report said.

While en route to the LPD for processing, he mumbled nonsense and fell asleep for the five-minute ride there. He later provided breath samples of 0.321g/210L and 0.328g/210L, the report said.

Jacobs was charged with DUI (third conviction in more than 10 years). The Ohio native was booked at the Lake County Jail with bond set at $10,000.
