A Center Hill man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after a Circle K employee reported he had been sitting in the parking lot for three hours.
Officers responded to Circle K, located at 900 S 14th St., regarding a suspicious white vehicle at 11:55 p.m., Feb. 9, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. An employee advised that the driver, 23-year-old Jesus Enriquez, left it running in the parking lot for about three hours.
Upon arrival, the officers found Enriquez sleeping in the truck with the engine still running and the radio playing music. One of them knocked on the window to wake him up to no avail. It took an officer opening the door and nudging him several times for him to come to, the report said.
He spoke but seemed to be incoherent, as he mumbled and slurred some of his words. He then fumbled underneath the dashboard like he was looking for something. He also told officers that he had a couple of drinks yet would not say how many or where he drank them, the report said.
At that point, Lake County Fire rescue personnel were asked to come check on his medical well being. Another officer came to evaluate him prior to their arrival, and he saw Enriquez had his jeans unbuttoned with a puddle of unknown liquid near his feet, the report said.
During the interview that followed, Enriquez stated he was there to get gas despite not being parked near a gas pump. An officer pointed this out and mentioned him being there for three hours, to which he said he got cold. The officer also asked about why his pants were unbuttoned. He responded by asking if he was not allowed to do so and stated he just wanted to be comfortable, the report said.
Lake County Fire subsequently arrived on scene and started to ask him more questions. He came verbally aggressive, cursed at one of the personnel and told them to do their job. Throughout the interaction, his responses were unpredictable. He would respond willingly at times or aggressively at others, the report said.
Enriquez quickly declined to participate in field sobriety exercises, the report said. He later refused to provide a breath, urine or blood sample, and he would not sign any citations, which he claimed his lawyer would handle. He also refused to look at the camera when taking booking photographs because “they were going to drop the charges.”
He was ultimately charged with DUI, refusal to submit to DUI breath or urine and two counts of refuse to sign citation. He was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $6,000 bond.
